Champagne Taittinger Brut Comtes De Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 2012 750ml
Champagne Taittinger Brut Comtes De Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 2012 750ml
FRANCE : CHAMPAGNE : CÔTE DES BLANCS
CONVENTIONAL : Chardonnay
FULL-BODIED, POACHED PEAR, BRIOCHE, TOASTED HAZELNUT, CHALK, NEUTRAL OAK
The 2012 Comtes de Champagne spent a full decade on the lees in Taittinger's 13th-century chalk crayères beneath Reims — Roman-dug tunnels maintained at a constant 10°C since the Middle Ages. The wine draws entirely from the first press of Grand Cru Chardonnay from five Côte des Blancs communes: Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger.
2012 was called the miracle vintage. Spring frost and hail decimated the crop; then a hot, dry August and cool September transformed what remained into Chardonnay of exceptional concentration and finesse. After a decade underground, the result is unmistakable. Scored 99 pts (James Suckling), 96 pts (Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast), and 95+ pts (Wine Advocate).
PAIRINGS :
| Lobster thermidor | richness and cream meet the wine's chalk and brioche depth |
| Caviar on blini | the wine's salinity and autolytic complexity are built for this |
| White truffle risotto | 10-year lees aging bridges mushroom umami with subtle oak texture |
