Chappellet sits on Pritchard Hill, a high-elevation ridge in the eastern hills of Napa Valley that has been producing mountain-grown Cabernet since Donn and Molly Chappellet planted it in 1967 — one of the earliest estates in the modern Napa canon. The Mountain Cuvée is the house's more accessible bottling: a Bordeaux blend drawn from estate vines, built for pleasure now rather than a decade in the cellar.
The 2021 growing season began with one of the driest winters on record, followed by a mild, even summer with no adverse heat events. Drought conditions limited canopy growth and produced small, concentrated berries — and ultimately wines with excellent acidity and structure. The blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot, 14% Merlot, 12% Malbec, and 5% Cabernet Franc, bottled at 14.7% ABV.
