Chateau Hosanna Pomerol 2020 750ml
FRANCE : BORDEAUX : POMEROL
Merlot, Cabernet Franc
FULL-BODIED, BLACK PLUM, VIOLET, GRAPHITE, IRON-LACED, NEW OAK
Hosanna sits on Pomerol's central plateau surrounded by names that read like a greatest-hits list — Pétrus to the east, Lafleur to the north, La Fleur-Pétrus to the west, Vieux Château Certan to the south. Its 4.5 hectares rest on blue clay over red gravel with an iron-rich subsoil known as crasse de fer — the same geology that defines the appellation's best terroirs. Old Cabernet Franc vines, a significant share planted in 1956, contribute structural complexity you don't find in younger parcels.
This was Château Certan Giraud before Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired it in 1999, selecting only the highest plateau parcels and renaming it Hosanna. Moueix calls it the feminine counterpart to Trotanoy — less density, more precision.
The 2020 vintage was exceptional across Bordeaux and particularly so in Pomerol: a hot, dry summer gave way to a golden autumn and some of the most phenolically ripe fruit the appellation has produced in decades. James Suckling 99 pts, Jeb Dunnuck 98 pts. Drink 2027–2055.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast duck with cherry jus | mirrors the wine's plum density and iron-laced minerality |
| Beef Wellington | classic Bordeaux format; structure frames the richness without being overwhelmed |
| Aged Comté | the wine's grip and oak hold against the nutty, crystalline character of long-aged cheese |
