Cims de Porrera started in 1996 as a rescue job — Josep Lluís Pérez of Mas Martinet and Lluís Llach struck a deal with the Porrera village cooperative to buy grapes from old Carignan and Grenache that growers were walking away from for lack of return. Cousins Adrià and Marc Pérez make the wines now.
The Clàssic is the house's purest statement: 100% old-vine Carignan off Porrera's llicorella slate, where the vineyards Cims draws on run 60 to 105 years old on 40–50% slopes. It spends 18 months in 225-liter French oak, 90% of it used, then rests five years in bottle before release.
2017 was an early, hot, dry year in Priorat — the kind old Carignan handles better than almost anything else in the ground. Dark fruit with real density, firm tannins, a long mineral finish.
