Citto — 'good boy' in Tuscan dialect — is Castello di Volpaia's everyday red: mostly Sangiovese from the estate's IGT vineyards in the Chianti Classico zone, with some Cabernet Sauvignon from its Maremma holdings. Fermentation, malolactic and a short rest all happen in stainless steel, so there's no wood between you and the fruit.
Volpaia sits on a hilltop north of Radda in Chianti at 2,024 feet, among the highest commercial vineyards in Chianti Classico, and every wine the estate makes comes from 100% certified organic grapes. Citto is the way into that lineup.
2023 ran warm and dry in Tuscany, broken by a July hailstorm and heavy mid-August rain. Volpaia reports thick-skinned berries with ripe tannins, picked from mid-September into early November.
