Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. didn’t just build the distillery — he wrote the law. As the architect of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, the first consumer protection law in US history, he established the standards this whiskey still meets today: single distillery, single season, minimum four years, 100 proof. The O.F.C. Distillery he purchased in 1869 is now Buffalo Trace, and each barrel in this release is traced back to Warehouse C, the brick rickhouse he built in 1881.

Single barrel means each bottle carries a barrel number — flavor varies slightly run to run, but the Warehouse C selection process keeps it in character: corn sweetness from Mash Bill #1, deepened by 11-plus years until the oak and tobacco integrate with the caramel. The Bottled-in-Bond certification on the label isn’t marketing; it’s a legal standard that Taylor himself wrote.
