USA : KENTUCKY : FRANKFORT
Rye, Malted Barley
FULL-BODIED, BLACK PEPPER, DRIED FRUIT, CARAMEL, OAK
Named for Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. — the man who championed the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 — this rye is distilled, aged, and bottled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, in the same century-old warehouses Taylor himself built. As a Bottled-in-Bond release, it meets federal standards requiring a single season's distillation, government-supervised aging of at least four years, and bottling at exactly 100 proof.
The mash bill is a genuine outlier: rye and malted barley with no corn — the only Sazerac-portfolio rye with this grain composition. The absence of corn pushes the character toward rye-forward spice and a softer malt sweetness rather than the corn-influenced fruit notes common in Kentucky straight ryes. Most tasters estimate the age at closer to nine years, which explains the oak depth.
