Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 750ml
USA : NAPA VALLEY : ST. HELENA
Cabernet Sauvignon
MED-BODIED, BLACK RASPBERRY, DRIED CHERRY, VIOLET, ANISE, OAK
Cathy Corison founded her label in 1987 as the first woman winemaker-proprietor in the Napa Valley, and she has spent nearly four decades picking early and holding alcohol down while the rest of the valley went the other way. This one lands at 14.2%.
Fruit comes from three benchland vineyards between Rutherford and St. Helena, on the deep gravelly loam that gives the wine its acidity. Native yeast, closed-top stainless, then 20 months in French oak, half of it new.
2017 was Napa's fire vintage and the critics split hard on this bottle: Wine Enthusiast 95 pts, Wine Spectator 94 pts, Vinous 88 pts. Give it 90 minutes in a decanter and pick a side.
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled ribeye | fine-grained tannin needs fat, not sauce |
| Rack of lamb with rosemary | meets the dried herb note head-on |
| Duck breast with cherry | mirrors the dried cherry and plum fruit |
