Craggy Range Martinborough Pinot Noir 2025 750ml
NEW ZEALAND : WAIRARAPA : MARTINBOROUGH
Pinot Noir
MED-BODIED, RED CHERRY, RASPBERRY, ROSE PETAL, DAMP EARTH, OAK
Craggy Range built its Martinborough programme on the terraces of Te Muna Road, and this bottling draws on selected blocks there alongside other sites across the appellation. Fruit is hand-picked, destemmed, then fermented with a portion of whole bunches in open-top steel and French oak cuves on native yeasts before aging in French oak barriques.
2025 ended a run of four small vintages in Martinborough. Writing in Decanter, Emma Jenkins MW reported a strong yield and Pinot Noir with a savoury, charming profile, and Craggy Range's Ben Tombs noted softer tannins and lower acidity than the more firmly structured recent years.
The winery has been family owned since 1998, held inside a thousand-year family trust that now has three generations working in it.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast chicken with thyme | fine tannin sits under roast bird without fighting it |
| Seared duck breast with cherry | classic weight match, the fruit mirrors the sauce |
| Mushroom and barley risotto | plays to the damp-earth note rather than the fruit |
