FULL-BODIED, PLUM, LICORICE, ROASTED COFFEE, OAK
La Landonne sits on the Côte Brune side of Côte-Rôtie — a southeast-facing wall of iron-rich schist running from roughly 175 to 275 metres, steep enough at 45 degrees that the spraying is still done on foot. No Viognier is grown here and none goes into the wine. Delas farms under a hectare of it.
The 2018 came in on 13 September at what the estate called perfect ripeness, around 14 degrees natural. Fermentation is in open-top concrete with punch-downs and pump-overs, then 14 to 16 months in cask, 30 to 40 percent of it new — restrained for a vineyard where the neighbours reach for 100 percent.
Vinous puts the drinking window at 2027 to 2037. This is not a bottle to open tonight.
