Domaine Buisson-Charles Meursault Vieilles Vignes 2021 750ml
FRANCE : BURGUNDY : MEURSAULT
ORGANIC : Chardonnay
MED-BODIED, WHITE FLOWERS, CITRUS, ORCHARD FRUIT, CRUSHED STONE, OAK
The domaine's village Meursault is a blend of six old-vine parcels ringing the town: Vireuils and Meix Chavaux on the slope for freshness and tension, Marcausses, Vignes Blanches and Pellans at the foot of the premier crus for body, and Millerands on gravel for finesse. The vines run from 45 to 90 years old.
Fermented on indigenous yeasts and raised 17 months in Burgundian barrels, about 20 percent of them new, from Tronçais oak. Bottled with neither fining nor filtration.
2021 was the frost year in the Côte de Beaune and Chardonnay took the worst of it, so what survived came in late, around the third week of September. The whites that resulted are fresher and more sharply defined than the warm vintages on either side. Buisson-Charles picks later than its neighbors by design, so this is not a lean wine, but the domaine says plainly that it wants a few years in bottle before it opens up.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast monkfish with bacon and creamy lentils | smoke meets the fine oak, lentils give the wine weight to push against |
| Lobster with drawn butter | butter fills out the mid-palate, the mineral finish keeps it bright |
| Aged Comté, 18 months or more | nutty and caramelized, mirroring the old-vine depth |
