Domaine Cherrier Pere et Fils Sancerre 2024 750ml
FRANCE : LOIRE VALLEY : SANCERRE
Sauvignon Blanc
LIGHT-MEDIUM BODIED, LEMON, FRESH-CUT GRASS, CRUSHED STONE, PEACH, NO OAK
Sancerre sits across the Loire from Pouilly-Fumé, its hillside vineyards built on the same Kimmeridgian limestone family found in Chablis. Domaine Cherrier Père et Fils has farmed this terroir since 1930 — four generations deep, with Fernand, his son Sylvain, and daughter-in-law Monique now running the estate together. The family is also a recognized producer of Crottin de Chavignol, the goat cheese that shares this same hillside and forms the region's defining pairing.
2024 was a difficult, mildew-pressured vintage across the Loire — growers describe it as a test of vigilance more than terroir. This bottling holds the line: hand-harvested, fermented in stainless tank with no malolactic, built for the appellation's signature high acidity and chalky minerality rather than fruit-forward excess.
PAIRINGS :
| Crottin de Chavignol | same hillside, the textbook match — acid cuts the cheese's creaminess |
| Oysters on the half shell | saline minerality mirrors the brine |
| Pan-seared sole or branzino | citrus and stone lift delicate fish without overpowering it |
