Domaine Coudray–Bizot Echezeaux Grand Cru 'En Orveaux' 2017 750ml
FRANCE : BURGUNDY : COTE DE NUITS
ORGANIC : Pinot Noir
MED-BODIED, RED BERRY, FOREST FLOOR, EARTH, OAK
En Orveaux is the northernmost corner of Echezeaux, with Le Musigny directly to the north and Clos de Vougeot just to the east — the Chambolle edge of the biggest grand cru in the Côte de Nuits. Coudray-Bizot's vines here are 30 to 60 years old, farmed organically without certification and picked by hand.
The family has held its parcels since the early 1800s, and Jean-Jacques Coudray-Bizot works from the cellars beneath the Château David de Beaufort in Beaune by two rules: never more than 30% new oak, and a normal five to six years in the cellar before release. The 2017s left the estate in 2024. What you're buying is grand cru Burgundy the domaine already judged ready.
Importer Bonhomie describes 2017 as a year of contrast — cold winter, an erratic spring, a cooler summer with enough rain — overlooked on release and since prized for aromatic expression and an elegant, balanced palate.
