Domaine Coudray–Bizot Vosne Romanée '1er Cru La Croix Rameau' 2015 750ml
FRANCE : BURGUNDY : VOSNE-ROMANÉE
ORGANIC : Pinot Noir
MED-BODIED, DRIED CHERRY, RED CURRANT, VIOLET, FOREST FLOOR, NEUTRAL OAK
La Croix Rameau is the smallest premier cru in Vosne-Romanée — 0.6 hectares, named for the cross the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant erected to honor composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. The site is bordered on three sides by Romanée Saint-Vivant, one of Burgundy's five Grand Crus, and there is an active effort among local growers to have it reclassified into that appellation. If it succeeds, this price will not hold.
Jean-Jacques Coudray-Bizot farms organically and holds wines in his 16th-century cellars beneath a château in Beaune until he judges them ready — often five to six years. The 2015, a Decanter 5/5 vintage for Côte d'Or reds, is drinking beautifully now and will continue through 2035+.
PAIRINGS :
| Duck confit | mineral lift and fine tannin cut through rendered fat cleanly |
| Mushroom risotto | forest floor and dried herb notes bridge to earthy umami |
| Roasted lamb rack | structure and length stand up to the richness; the herbed crust mirrors the wine's dried herb quality |
