Domaine de la Cras Coteaux de Dijon Bourgogne Rouge 2024 750mL
FRANCE : BURGUNDY : COTEAUX DE DIJON
CERTIFIED ORGANIC : Pinot Noir
LIGHT-BODIED, WILD RASPBERRY, SOUR CHERRY, CRUSHED STONE, DRIED HERB, NEUTRAL OAK
In 2013 the city of Dijon bought this estate and ran an open competition to decide who would make the wine. Three conditions: farm it organically, come from no wine-owning family, open the doors to the public. Marc Soyard won, and he still pays his rent to the city in bottles.
He spent six years at Domaine Bizot in Vosne-Romanée before that, and the method came north with him — two-thirds whole cluster, native yeast, ten to twelve months in neutral barrique, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Domaine de la Cras is the only estate on earth permitted to write Coteaux de Dijon on a label, a name left over from when the slopes above the city outranked Gevrey.
2024 was a hard Burgundian year — frost, then mildew, then rain, rescued by September sun on a very small crop. What that gives you is a lighter, higher-acid, more transparent Bourgogne rouge than 2022 or 2023 delivered. Drink it for the lift, not the weight.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast chicken with tarragon | the herb picks up the stem lift, the fat softens the acid |
| Jambon persillé | parsley and ham against crushed-stone Pinot, the Burgundian default |
| Grilled salmon | high-acid light red is the right red for oily fish |
