Domaine Frédéric Esmonin Bourgogne Les Genevrières Rouge 2023 750ml
FRANCE : BURGUNDY : BOURGOGNE
CONVENTIONAL : Pinot Noir
LIGHT-BODIED, TART CRANBERRY, RIPE STRAWBERRY, EARTHY SPICE, NEUTRAL OAK
The Esmonin family has farmed the same Cote de Nuits land for generations from their home base in Gevrey-Chambertin, selling fruit to Drouhin, Jadot, and Leroy before starting to bottle under their own label in 1988. That pedigree shows in the winemaking: a short cold maceration extracts fruit without toughening the tannins, followed by 14 to 17 months in French oak from Allier and Nevers forests (20% new at this level), then bottling without filtration.
The 2023 is from a remarkable vintage, Burgundy's largest harvest on record, widely called a year of pure pleasure where ripe red fruit, vibrant acidity, and approachable tannins all arrived in balance. Les Genevrieres delivers exactly that: light-plus body, tart cranberry and strawberry on the nose, soft cherry and raspberry on the palate, and a bright elongated finish.
PAIRINGS :
| Roasted duck breast with cherry reduction | tart cranberry mirrors the sauce; light tannin handles the fat without dominating |
| Mushroom risotto | earthy and spice notes in the wine echo the depth of the dish |
| Herb-roasted chicken | the classic Burgundian match; acidity cuts the fat, red fruit complements the herbs |
