FRANCE : JURA : CÔTES DU JURA
ORGANIC : Poulsard
LIGHT-BODIED, STRAWBERRY, DRIED CHERRY, DRIED ROSE, TENDER MINERAL, USED OAK
Domaine Pêcheur is a family operation out of Darbonnay, in the Côtes du Jura — Christian Pêcheur trained at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune and returned in 1992 to work what began as a single hectare, now eight. The Champs Rouge vineyard in Passenans sits on marne rouges, the region's characteristic red marlstone, with ~25-year-old vines farmed without pesticides or herbicides — organic in practice, uncertified.
The 2023 is 100% Poulsard, destemmed, fermented in stainless steel, and aged in used 600L oak casks for roughly a year. What you're getting is a wine that reads closer to a structured rosé than a standard red: pale ruby-violet, low tannin, jammy strawberry and dried cherry, a thread of dried rose petal, and the marlstone minerality running underneath. Serve it with a slight chill.
PAIRINGS :
| Charcuterie and pâté | low tannin lets the fruit show against cured fat; the rosé-like structure works across the whole board |
| Grilled salmon | light-red structure bridges fish and fuller white territory — the Jura chillable red in its best use |
| Mushroom risotto | earthy umami and the wine's mineral thread reinforce each other |
