Domaine Reine Juliette Piquepoul Noir 2024 750ml
FRANCE : LANGUEDOC
ORGANIC : Piquepoul Noir
LIGHT-BODIED, POMEGRANATE, RASPBERRY, WET STONE, NO OAK
Piquepoul Noir is one of the rarest expressions in French wine — a highly perfumed black-skinned mutation of the common Picpoul Blanc, with sky-high acidity and a barely-there color that blurs the line between red and rosé. It almost never appears as a standalone varietal. Domaine Reine Juliette is one of the few taking it seriously.
The estate has been farming the same land near Castelnau-de-Guers in the Hérault for six generations. Their Piquepoul Noir vines — planted on marl and red clay — are ten years old and deliver the grape's characteristic mineral streak alongside the fruit. Eight days of maceration, cement fermentation, no oak. The 2024 vintage brought difficult spring conditions across the Languedoc, but the aromatics came through bright.
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled sardines | high acidity plays against the brine and oil |
| Charcuterie board | classic Languedoc aperitif pairing |
| Herb-roasted chicken | light structure works with white-meat poultry |
