Domaine Santa Duc Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 'La Crau Ouest' 2020 750ml
FRANCE : RHÔNE : CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE
BIODYNAMIC : Grenache
FULL-BODIED, STRAWBERRY, CRANBERRY, WILD MINT, BLACKBERRY, NO OAK
From a half-hectare parcel of 90-year-old vines on Miocene safres — very fine sand over clayey subsoil — east of the village, with a north-facing orientation that tempers ripeness and preserves aromatic lift. Benjamin Gras farms biodynamically under both Demeter and Ecocert certification; his family has been in Gigondas for five generations and completed the full biodynamic conversion in 2016.
Fermented in stainless steel, then aged 18 months in 8-hectoliter terracotta amphorae — an unusual choice for the appellation that keeps the fruit pure and the terroir legible. No oak influence, no fining, no filtration. Falstaff 97, Wine Enthusiast 95 Cellar Selection.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast leg of lamb with herbes de Provence | the wine’s garrigue and structure are built for lamb — classic Southern Rhône |
| Duck confit | dark fruit and acidity lift the richness; a natural regional pairing |
| Braised wild boar | peppery kirsch and earthy spice hold up to game without dominating |
