Named for the Baptist minister credited with aging corn spirit in charred new oak in 1789, the Elijah Craig brand is Heaven Hill's definitive single-barrel lineup — and this 15-year-old is the newest age statement in the lineup. Heaven Hill is the last major family-owned distillery in Kentucky; the Shapira family has been running it since 1935, filling barrels in Bardstown while every other name in American bourbon sold to a conglomerate.

The 54% ABV is deliberate: 108 proof, a nod to May 4, 1964 — the date Congress formally recognized bourbon as a distinct American product. More body and darker extraction than a standard 46% bottling; less aggressive than true cask strength. Fifteen years in new charred oak push the caramelized sugar, dark fruit, and baking spice deeper than anything in the 10–12 year tier below it.

Robb Report scored the inaugural release 97/100 — "one of the best bourbons of the year so far." The Whiskey Wash scored it 9/10. Both reviewed barrel #10; individual barrel variation is inherent in single-barrel releases, but the depth-to-heat ratio holds across published notes: enough proof to carry real flavor, not so much it overtakes the whiskey underneath.
