Named for Reverend Elijah Craig — the Baptist minister credited with pioneering the use of charred new oak barrels in bourbon production — this Heaven Hill flagship has been assembling small batches since 1986. Today’s no-age-statement release draws on barrels aged 8 to 12 years, hand-selected from the upper floors of Heaven Hill’s rickhouses, where greater temperature swings drive deeper extraction and broader wood contact.

All Elijah Craig bourbons age in Level 3 charred new American oak — the char level that best releases caramelized sugars, vanillin, wood smoke, and baking spice. At 94 proof it’s approachable but structured, and it makes a serious argument for its price point in American whiskey.
