Elmer Tandy Lee (1919–2013) spent 36 years as Master Distiller at Buffalo Trace and changed bourbon twice — first in 1984, when he launched Blanton's Single Barrel, the product that invented the single barrel category; then again on his retirement, when the distillery named a bourbon after him. He kept selecting barrels personally into his final years. Each bottle carries the specific warehouse and barrel number, and the bourbon carries no age statement — most releases land around nine years.

What you're buying is a lighter, more honeyed expression than Blanton's at similar proof — less intensity, more finesse, classic Buffalo Trace rickhouse character with room to breathe.
