Feudo di Santa Tresa Terre Siciliane Frappato 2024 750ml
ITALY : SICILY : VITTORIA
CERTIFIED ORGANIC : Frappato
LIGHT-BODIED, WILD STRAWBERRY, CRANBERRY, WHITE PEPPER, SALINITY, NO OAK
Frappato is the native light red of southeastern Sicily — thin-skinned, high-acid, and fiercely aromatic. “Rina russa” is Sicilian dialect for the red clay soil of the Contrada Santa Teresa estate in Vittoria, and it’s where the wine’s mineral, saline finish comes from. Stefano and Marina Girelli, siblings who brought Trentino experience to indigenous Sicilian varieties, have farmed the 39-hectare estate organically since purchasing it in 2001.
The 2024 vintage was a dry year across Sicily — half the normal rainfall, 20% drop in production island-wide — but Frappato was specifically cited as a variety that excelled under drought conditions. Wine Enthusiast scored it 90 points, noting wild strawberry and cranberry on the nose, with herbs, pepper, and a saline lift through the finish. Serve lightly chilled.
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled swordfish with capers and tomato | salinity and citrus-fennel notes echo the Mediterranean flavor profile |
| Charcuterie and aged Pecorino | bright acid and light tannin cut the fat without competing |
| Pizza Margherita | the right weight for tomato-based pizza; fresh fruit frame won't overwhelm the cheese |
