Erik Longabardi and Benford Lepley make wine in Erik's garage in Roslyn from organically farmed backyard vineyards on the North Fork — true garagistes, hand-bottling everything with no additions and no shortcuts. Floral Terranes began in 2017 as an extension of their cider work, foraging apples from Long Island's forgotten orchards as an act of cultural preservation in a region where farmland gave way to suburbs over the last century.

The 2022 Merlot was foot-stomped and fermented spontaneously in open-top containers before aging in neutral French oak. Nothing added or taken away. Plummy and mouth-coating, with a brightness of red fruit and baking spice that keeps it from being heavy. One of the more compelling arguments for Long Island Merlot you'll find.
