Floral Terranes is a side-project-turned-serious winery from Erik Longabardi and Benford Lepley, two Long Island locals who make about 300 cases a year across all their wines and ciders out of a garage in Roslyn. The Petit Verdot comes from organically and biodynamically farmed North Fork sites — foot-stomped whole-cluster, fermented spontaneously in open-top containers, aged up to 10 months in old neutral French oak, then bottled unfined and unfiltered with no sulfur added.
Petit Verdot rarely achieves full ripeness on the East Coast, but 2022 was one of Long Island's best growing seasons in years — enough of a window to bring this late-ripening Bordeaux variety to full structural integrity and that characteristic fine-grained tannin texture.
