Dornfelder is Germany's most popular red grape you've almost certainly never heard of — the second most planted red variety in the country, bred in 1956 to deliver that deep, dark color that German reds rarely manage, with soft tannins and enough fruit-forward character to work at any occasion. Weingut Fritz Windisch has been farming in Mommenheim since 1780, and their Heimersheimer Rotenfels bottling is the house standard-bearer.
Off-dry, polished, and built for immediate enjoyment. At 9.5% ABV it sits lighter than its color suggests, with just enough residual sweetness to soften the dark fruit without tipping into sticky territory. The screw cap keeps it fresh pour by pour.
