Gaspard Pinot Noir 2022 750ml
FRANCE : LOIRE : SAINT-POURCAIN
SUSTAINABLE : Pinot Noir
LIGHT-BODIED, DARK CHERRY, RED PLUM, EARTHY, GENTLE TANNIN, NEUTRAL OAK
Saint-Pourçain sits in the Auvergne — technically Loire Valley, but closer to Burgundy in geography, soil, and temperament. Old vines (around 60 years) grow in clay-limestone, and the resulting Pinot Noir is light-boned and aromatic, carrying more forest-floor earthiness than Loire reds from further west.
This is one of Jenny Lefcourt's Gaspard house wines — sourced from a grower who works to her brief: sustainable farming, native yeast, no fining, and a year in large neutral barrels before lightly filtered bottling. Jenny & François Selections is the company that helped introduce natural wine to the US, and Gaspard is what that looks like at an everyday price point.
PAIRINGS :
| Charcuterie plate | dark fruit and earthiness mirror the savory, fatty character of cured meats — the producer's own call |
| Pâté de campagne | classic Loire pairing; the wine's low tannin and acidity cut through richness without overwhelming the herbs |
| Mushroom risotto | the wine's earthy undertone mirrors umami depth; acidity keeps the rich rice from feeling heavy |
