MED-BODIED, RASPBERRY, CHERRY, DARK CHOCOLATE, CEDAR, NEW OAK
Gothic’s Nevermore draws from three Willamette Valley AVAs — Hyland in McMinnville, Willakia in Eola-Amity Hills, and Monk’s Gate in Yamhill-Carlton — blending across terroirs rather than spotlighting a single site. Josh Nadel founded Gothic in 2009 after years as a restaurateur and sommelier in New York City; the food-first instincts are evident. As Poe’s raven put it: Nevermore.
The 2021 growing season was shaped by a record heat dome in June followed by one of the driest summers on record — low disease pressure, yields at about 75% of normal, and a measured harvest through mid-October. The wines came in concentrated, with fine tannins and a tangy acid backbone. Twelve months in French oak (30% new) adds cedar and a light vanilla frame without burying the fruit.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast Pork with Cranberry Glaze | tart berry glaze echoes the wine’s raspberry acidity; pork fat softens the tannin |
| Duck Confit | richness cuts through the plush tannin; cherry and cedar track through |
| Wild Mushroom Risotto | earthy umami amplifies the savory herbal finish; acidity keeps the dish light |
