Hampden Estate 1753 Pure Single Jamaican Rum 700ml
JAMAICA : TRELAWNY
Molasses, Pot Still, Wild Fermentation, 3 Years Ex-Bourbon Barrel
MED-BODIED, OVERRIPE PINEAPPLE, GREEN APPLE, MALT VINEGAR, TROPICAL FUNK
Hampden Estate has been distilling in Trelawny since 1753 — before Jamaica was independent, before the modern rum industry existed. The estate occupies roughly 3,500 acres in the Queen of Spain Valley, where wild yeasts colonize wooden fermentation vats and copper pot stills with double retorts have been doing the heavy lifting since the mid-18th century. Nothing about the production method has changed in 270 years: 8–15 day wild fermentation, pure sugarcane vinegar added to the mash to drive ester formation, and distillation through one of four copper pot stills that date back to 1960.
The 1753 is the entry point to the Hampden range — HLCF marque, 476.9 gr/hlpa esters, 3 years in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 46% with no additives or caramel coloring. By Hampden's own extreme standards this sits at the accessible end of the ester spectrum; by any global benchmark it is a high-ester, genuinely funky Jamaican pot still rum that earns its place as a sipper.
