ORGANIC : Rice (Makgeolli)
LIGHT-BODIED, SEMI-SWEET, EFFERVESCENT, MILK BREAD, LACTIC
Hana Makgeolli is the first domestic brewery dedicated to jeongtongju — traditionally brewed Korean rice wine, made with organic rice, nuruk (Korea's traditional wild-culture fermentation starter), and water. Nothing else. Founded in 2020 by Alice Jun in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Hana brews without additives or shortcuts, fermenting the way it was done before colonization industrialized the category.
The MAQ8 Silkysonic is the single-serve canned format — 8% ABV, two-stage fermented (iyangju), and deliberately carbonated for a light, effervescent pour. Shake gently before opening to reintegrate the settled lees.
ABV 8% SERVE well chilled
PAIRINGS :
| Kimchi jeon (scallion pancakes) | lactic tang mirrors the fermented kimchi; effervescence cuts through the oil |
| Bánh xèo (Vietnamese sizzling crepes) | semi-sweet balance against the rich pork and shrimp filling |
| Fish tacos with slaw | bright rice wine acidity lifts the seafood; carbonation refreshes alongside the slaw |
