Heimann & Fiai are the primary force behind Kadarka's revival in Hungary. The grape once covered 60,000 hectares across the country before Communism drove it to near-extinction — fewer than 400 hectares remained by the early 1990s. Zoltán Jr. Heimann has spent two decades collecting clones, replanting, and learning which parcels of Szekszárd's loess and terra rossa best suit the variety.

The 2023 Szekszárd Birtok is the first certified organic vintage from the estate's Kadarka program. Whole bunches go into concrete vats for spontaneous fermentation, macerate 10-12 days, then age four months in the same concrete — zero fining, barely filtered, no oak. The result is precise and weightless: pale, alive with cherry and violet, with a dried-spice and herbal edge entirely its own. 92 pts, James Suckling.
