Chenin Blanc
FRESH, GREEN APPLE, QUINCE, CITRUS ZEST, LIVELY ACIDITY, STAINLESS STEEL
Lineage is Herzog's estate-grown series, and this is its Chenin Blanc from Clarksburg — fermented cool in stainless steel to keep the green apple, quince and citrus zest bright, with lively acidity carrying through to a long, clean finish. The 2024 sits at 13.5% alcohol with 3 g/l of residual sugar. It drinks dry.
Clarksburg is a federally mapped grape-growing area just southwest of Sacramento, set up in 1984 on mostly clay and clay loam soils, where Sacramento normally runs eight to ten degrees warmer on a hot summer day. Chenin Blanc has a record here: the rule that created the area cites a Clarksburg Chenin Blanc that won medals at four major competitions in 1981.
Herzog Wine Cellars is a family winery in Ventura County, California, and it makes kosher wine. The family's winemaking began in the early nineteenth century in Vrbové, in what is now Slovakia.
