Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Kabinett Trocken Munny AP-9 Riesling 2023 750ml
Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Kabinett Trocken Munny AP-9 Riesling 2023 750ml
GERMANY : MOSEL : SAAR
ORGANIC : Riesling
LIGHT-BODIED, BONE DRY, LIME ZEST, FLINT, PEACH, SALINITY, NEUTRAL OAK
From a very old vineyard near the village of Niedermenninger, Falkenstein's Kabinett Trocken (the driest and lightest style of German Riesling) is zippy, crunchy, stony, and ethereal, with restrained fruit, tense acidity, and impossibly clean minerality. Hand harvested and matured on the lees in 1,000L barrels for 3-9 months before bottling.
Hofgut Falkenstein is a family estate in the Konzer Tälchen — a side valley of the Saar — where Erich and Johannes Weber bottle each cask separately: one AP number per Fuder, no blending. “Munny” names the former owner of this parcel; “AP-9” is the ninth cask in the official 2023 bottling sequence. The 2023 Saar was a frost-ravaged vintage — yields as low as 5 hl/ha — and what survived is crystalline. 94+ points, Lobenberg. 92 points, Wine Advocate.

PAIRINGS :
| Grilled oysters or raw shellfish | saline mineral structure mirrors ocean brine; under 10% ABV means it won’t overpower delicate seafood |
| Spicy crispy chicken sandwich (#7) | store-tested; the firm acid and trace RS tame the heat without fighting it |
| Sushi — marinated mackerel or hamachi | the wine’s saline, flinty profile is a natural bridge to raw or cured fish |
