Named after Colonel John J. Bowman — great-great uncle of the distillery’s founder — this is A. Smith Bowman’s flagship single barrel expression. The distillery has operated outside Fredericksburg since 1988, when it relocated from the family’s original 7,200-acre farm in Fairfax County. Sazerac acquired it in 2003.

The production setup is unusual: Buffalo Trace distills the new make twice in Kentucky, then it travels to Virginia for a third pass through copper pot stills before going into barrel. Hand-selected from the oldest barrels in the warehouse. Won World’s Best Bourbon at the World Whiskies Awards in 2017.
