The liquid is standard Blue Label. John Walker & Sons says fewer than one cask in 10,000 from its reserves is good enough to go in, and some of those casks come from distilleries that closed decades ago and can never be replaced. Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker signs off on the blend.

What changes is the bottle. For Lunar New Year 2023 the label went to Shanghai fashion designer Angel Chen, who drew prancing rabbits bounding across mountain peaks. "There's a defiant energy to my illustrations," Chen said, "which bring to life the vibrant spirit of the rabbit as it leaps across the design." She designed the matching XR 21 and King George V bottles the same season.
