Killowen is Ireland's smallest distillery — a three-person operation in the Mourne Mountains of County Down, founded in 2017 by former architect Brendan Carty and partners. Their whiskeys are made on flame-fed copper pot stills with worm tub condensers, a setup that predates industrial distilling on the island. This single malt is sourced from Great Northern Distillery in County Louth, then matured and finished entirely at Killowen.

Five years in ex-Bourbon casks, then the spirit is divided: half goes into PX Sherry butts, half into Killowen's own dark rum casks — barrels from their in-house rum program, not purchased from a broker. Bottled at cask strength, 55%, with no chill filtration and no added color. The 2025 Icons of Whisky named Killowen Global Craft Producer of the Year. This is the bottle that earned it.
