King Of Kentucky 12 Year Old Batch 1
UNITED STATES : KENTUCKY : LOUISVILLE
75% Corn, 15% Rye, 10% Malted Barley — Brown-Forman Distillery
FULL-BODIED, CARAMEL, DARK CHOCOLATE, TOASTED COCONUT, TOBACCO, DRIED APRICOT
Brown-Forman's first-ever batched King of Kentucky arrives as three different proof expressions — 105, 107.5, and 110 — built from roughly 100 barrels each, aged 12 to 18 years in heat-cycled Louisville rickhouses. The barrels weren't recycled from surplus stock; they were originally earmarked for the single barrel program, set aside as far back as 2018, and left to age until evaporation reduced many to just 14–16% of their original fill. Too depleted to stand alone as single-barrel releases, they were blended instead — a solution that, as Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris put it, "builds compound, composite flavor." Whisky Advocate 94 pts.
Batch 1, at 105 proof, is the most balanced of the three — the baseline Morris established by proofing down from natural blending strength until the flavors harmonized. Where Batch 2 (107.5 proof) pushes toward sweeter fruit and spice and Batch 3 (110 proof) goes all-in on concentrated fruit and oak intensity, Batch 1 stays the more accessible side: caramel and dark chocolate up front, a measured oak presence, and the softest finish of the trio. It's the bottle that gives you the clearest read on the King of Kentucky backbone without the intensity of its siblings.
