UNITED STATES : KENTUCKY : LOUISVILLE
79% Corn, 11% Rye, 10% Malted Barley — Brown-Forman Distillery
FULL-BODIED, DARK CHERRY, SPICED CANDIED WALNUT, DARK CHOCOLATE, CHARRED OAK
The 2025 King of Kentucky is the eighth annual single-barrel release since Brown-Forman revived the label in 2018. Sixty-three barrels were selected from Warehouse J (fourth floor) and Warehouse G (first floor) of Brown-Forman’s Louisville campus — individually bottled at natural barrel strength, without proofing down. Filled in 2007 and heat-cycled for 17 years, these barrels have had far more wood contact per year than passive warehouse aging would produce. Critics have consistently described the result as bourbon that “tastes older than its age statement suggests.”
Eastside Cellars holds two barrels from this release — this one at 129.2 proof and a second at 130 proof. The 0.8-proof difference falls well within the 2025 release’s natural barrel-to-barrel range of 124.5 to 135 proof. Both bottles carry the same fundamental King of Kentucky character; at this proof level, the distinction is individual cask variation, not a systematic flavor difference. This barrel carries fractionally less heat on entry than its sibling.
SUGGESTED SERVES :
| Neat | Allow five to ten minutes in the glass — the nose opens considerably as the temperature equalizes |
| Splash of water | A few drops opens additional fruit; less water may be needed here than with the 130-proof sibling |
| Large format ice | Single large cube for a chilled pour; the slow melt controls dilution at barrel strength |
