Kozlovic Teran 2024 750ml
CROATIA : WESTERN ISTRIA
SUSTAINABLE : Teran
MED-BODIED, BLACK CHERRY, CRANBERRY, WILD HERBS, NEUTRAL OAK
Teran is Istria’s primary red variety — iron-hungry, high-acid, deeply colored — grown on the peninsula’s signature terra rossa soils above the Adriatic coast. The Kozlović family has farmed in Vale, in the northwestern corner of the Istrian peninsula, since 1904. Gianfranco Kozlović, now at the helm, focuses the estate’s 25 hectares on indigenous varieties: Malvasia Istriana, Teran, and Muscat Momiano.
The Teran is hand-harvested, sorted, de-stemmed, and macerated for 10–15 days before natural fermentation in stainless steel. It then ages eight to twelve months in large 5,000-liter neutral oak barrels before bottling unfiltered — the large-format oak providing structure without imposing itself on the wine’s native fruit character.
PAIRINGS :
| Roasted lamb with rosemary and garlic | acidity cuts through the fat; dark fruit complements the herbs |
| Aged pecorino | firm tannins and cranberry acidity play well against sharp, salty cheese |
| Wild boar ragù with pasta | the regional pairing — game stands up to Teran’s tannins and earthy character |
