Krug Brut Rosé 26ème Edition Champagne 750ml
FRANCE : CHAMPAGNE
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Meunier
MED-BODIED, ROSE HIP, REDCURRANT, PINK GRAPEFRUIT, BRIOCHE, NEUTRAL OAK
Krug builds its rosé the way it builds everything else, by blending. Twenty-eight individual plot wines from seven harvests go into this bottle, the youngest from 2014 and the oldest from 2005, with reserve wines from the house library making up a third of the finished blend.
About 11% of it is traditionally macerated red Pinot Noir, drawn this time from plots in Aÿ and Taissy, and that is where the color and the pepper come from. The base wines ferment in small, old oak casks, so the wood contributes texture rather than flavor.
Nearly seven years on lees before disgorgement in the winter of 2020 to 2021. Wine Advocate 96 pts, Decanter 96 pts, Wine Spectator 95 pts.
PAIRINGS :
| Salt-cured anchovies | Krug's own pairing: the salt turns the fruit velvet |
| Roast lamb, pink | enough structure to stand in for a red |
| Duck with five-spice | the macerated Pinot Noir meets the spice head-on |
