Laphroaig has been distilling on the south shore of Islay since 1815, drawing water from the Kilbride Stream and malting a portion of its barley over peat cut from the Glenmachrie moss — one of the few distilleries in Scotland still maintaining its own floor maltings. The peat smoke is the house signature: antiseptic, medicinal, coastal, and unmistakable.

Select is built around five cask types: ex-Maker's Mark first-fill bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts, Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads, Quarter Casks, and Virgin American oak. The sweet-to-smoky arc is the intent — peat and brine up front, then ripe fruit and vanilla from varied wood, finishing long with floral notes and marzipan. The Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, held since 1994, belongs to Laphroaig alone.
