Sixteen years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and nothing else — no sherry, no quarter-cask finish, no wood juggling. What that buys is a Laphroaig where honey, barley sugar and tropical fruit sit out front, with the house iodine and peat smoke carried underneath rather than shouted.

It arrived in 2019 to fill the mid-aged gap left when the 15 and 18 were retired, and it's bottled at 48%, a notch above the 43% of the 10 Year — enough to hold the fruit and pepper together. Long, mildly medicinal finish of dark chocolate and dry peat. Whisky Advocate 93 pts, Editors' Choice.
