Lucien Crochet Sancerre 2024 750ml
FRANCE : LOIRE VALLEY : SANCERRE
SUSTAINABLE : Sauvignon Blanc
LIGHT-MEDIUM BODIED, ELDERFLOWER, LIME ZEST, CRUSHED CHALK, NO OAK
Lucien Crochet has farmed in Bué, the most celebrated village for white Sancerre, since the domaine was assembled from two family estates in the 1950s. Today Gilles Crochet tends 29 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc across three chalky soil types — caillottes, terres blanches, and silex — that shape the appellation's signature mineral character. Vineyards are farmed sustainably (lutte raisonnée since 1989), harvested by hand.
The 2024 is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel — no oak, nothing competing with the chalk and citrus. It's bright mineral in the nose with a slight green tinge, the fruit reticent but precise, the finish carrying great verve. Lower alcohol than recent vintages: the cool, wet 2024 season extended hang time and tightened the acidity without sacrificing the aromatics.
PAIRINGS :
| Oysters on the half shell | the classic match — mineral on mineral, lime and chalk against brine |
| Grilled branzino or daurade | acidity cuts fish fat; no oak means nothing competes with the flesh |
| Fresh chèvre or Crottin de Chavignol | the regional pairing — Loire goat cheese and Sancerre are made for each other |
