L'Umami Pinot Noir 2022 750ml
UNITED STATES : OREGON : Willamette Valley
CONVENTIONAL : Pinot Noir
MEDIUM-BODIED, RED CHERRY, DRIED HERBS, FOREST FLOOR, OAK
Laurent Montalieu founded NW Wine Company in 2003 as the Willamette Valley's first dedicated custom crush facility — a model built on sourcing and vinifying fruit from scattered AVA vineyards rather than farming a single estate. L'Umami is his house label, named for the earthy, savory dimension that sets Willamette Valley Pinot apart from its California and Burgundy counterparts.
The 2022 vintage began with April frost damage that cut early-budding sites hard, then recovered through a warm, dry summer and a record-setting October to deliver fully ripe fruit at harvest — two to three weeks later than normal but without the compromises. This bottling spent 21 days on skins with 100% malolactic fermentation before nine months in French oak from multiple coopers.
PAIRINGS :
| Roasted Salmon | earthy cherry notes cut through rich fish fat |
| Mushroom Risotto | mirrors the umami-forward, forest-floor character |
| Duck Breast | fine tannins hold their own against dark meat |
