Mai Vino Organic Amber/Skin Contact can 250mL
CHILE : ITATA VALLEY
ORGANIC : Moscatel de Alejandria, Semillon
MED-BODIED, DRIED APRICOT, MANGO, WHITE TEA, SKIN TANNINS, NO OAK
Itata Valley is one of Chile's oldest wine regions, home to some of the oldest vines in the country. Pressing technology never arrived here the way it did elsewhere in Chile, so winemakers kept white grapes on their skins by default — making skin-contact wine long before it had a marketing name. What the rest of the world calls orange wine, they just call wine.
These 80-year-old Moscatel de Alejandria vines are dry-farmed and horse-ploughed once a year, fermented with native yeast, left on the skins for 28 days. The result is dried apricot and mango on the nose, a lightly tannic mid-palate, and a smoky white tea finish — approachable for orange wine newcomers, satisfying for the already converted. 12.2% ABV, zero residual sugar.
Mai Vino is a female-founded New York brand built around single-origin organic sourcing. The 250mL can is the newest format — same grapes, same winemaking as their 1.5L pouch, more practical to open.
PAIRINGS :
| Aged manchego and honey | skin tannins and dried apricot balance the salt and fat |
| Grilled halloumi with charred lemon | the wine's weight holds up to salty cheese; citrus finish echoes the lemon |
| Vietnamese chicken salad with herbs | aromatic, herbaceous, sweet-sour; Moscatel's tropical notes parallel the fish sauce |
