Gavi is Piemonte's benchmark dry white, and this is Cortese at its most direct: pressed gently, fermented cool in steel, aged in steel, with no oak anywhere near it. The fruit comes off moderate slopes of marl, silt and sand, where the little clay that appears carries the mineral salts that give the wine its structure.

Marchesi di Barolo has worked the same cellars in the village of Barolo since the Abbona family bought them in 1929, and the family is six generations in now, with Ernesto and Anna joined by their children Valentina and Davide.

The Consorzio called 2025 a return to equilibrium after several variable years: even budbreak, a summer that traded warmth for useful rain, and a steady run to harvest. A long stay on the lees gives it the staying power to keep opening up in the glass.
