Martino Wines Fruto Tinto Malbec
ARGENTINA : MENDOZA
SUSTAINABLE : Malbec, Tempranillo, Syrah, Chardonnay
MED-LIGHT-BODIED, RED PLUM, BLACKBERRY, FRESH HERB, FLORAL, NO OAK
A woman-led Mendoza family's answer to the oak-heavy Malbec cliché. Fernanda Martino's Fruto Tinto is a fresh, unoaked, unfiltered red blend — Malbec rounded out with Tempranillo, Syrah and a splash of Chardonnay — fermented in steel and concrete egg with no wood at any stage.
Fruit is pulled across Mendoza, from cool, high Los Chacayes in the Uco Valley to warmer Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo. The result is fresh and floral rather than dense, built for the table, not the cellar. Tim Atkin 91 pts, Descorchados 90 pts. Serve with a slight chill.
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled flank steak | fresh acidity cuts the char |
| Beef empanadas | fruit echoes the spice |
| Wood-fired pizza | unoaked red handles tomato acidity |
