Mas Marer is the entry-level line from Venus La Universal — the Montsant project Sara Pérez (Mas Martinet) and René Barbier IV (Clos Mogador) built together after growing up as neighbors in Priorat and falling in love over wine in Burgundy. The concept behind Mas Marer is direct: young vines or barrels that don’t make the cut for the flagship Venus get bottled here instead. That’s an unusually high quality floor for a second label.

Montsant wraps around Priorat like a horseshoe, sharing the heat and the altitude but swapping llicorella slate for limestone and clay. The mineral character is less volcanic, more earth-driven. The 2019 vintage was warm and dry across Spain — concentrated fruit, good acidity, smooth tannins that don’t need years of cellaring to resolve.
