Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial 375mL
FRANCE : CHAMPAGNE
CONVENTIONAL : Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay
MED-BODIED, GREEN APPLE, BRIOCHE, CITRUS, NO OAK
The half bottle of the most recognizable Champagne on earth. Benoît Gouez assembles the Impérial from more than 100 base wines drawn across roughly 280 crus, anchors it with 20 to 30% reserve wine, and rests it a minimum of 18 months on the lees — all of it aimed at tasting the same every single year, at 28 million bottles a year.
Yellow apple, ripe pear and lemon up front, brioche and toasted nut underneath, a fine bead and a dry, mouthwatering close. Wine Spectator 91 pts. One note on the format: a 375mL holds about the same headspace as a full bottle, so it matures faster. This cuvée is built to drink on release anyway — buy it to open, not to hold.
PAIRINGS :
| Oysters on the half shell | brine pulls the chalk forward; the bead resets the palate between each one |
| Fried chicken | salt and crust against the dosage; a half bottle is the right pour for two |
| Aged Comté | nutty and savory as a counterpoint to the wine's brightness |
