Sullenger is the home vineyard, thirty acres of clay loam sitting directly behind the winery in Oakville, planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon and named for the farmer who settled the land in the 1880s.
The fruit is fermented in small lots and aged about sixteen months in French oak, enough to frame the wine without covering the site. What comes through is the Oakville signature, dark fruit and tobacco leaf over firm, grainy tannins, with acidity that keeps it moving.
2022 was a hard year in Napa. A Labor Day heat wave pushed Oakville to 118 degrees, so the vintage rewarded growers who could shelter the fruit and call the pick on instinct. Wine Enthusiast made this one a Cellar Selection at 94 points.
